How The Killing of Jesus Taken Place

This book is not a religious book as said by the authors, Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard, but a history. Thus, despite they are both Roman Catholics who were educated in religious schools, they wrote this book more from the historical point of view than Christianity faith. They refrain of mixing the story with divine things despite a lot of stories and words are taken from the Bible.

In this book, the authors do not address Jesus as Messiah, but as a man who was preaching about peace and love, His standpoint as opposition of the religious leaders for which had made Him as the most wanted enemy of Sanhedrin, and, how the plot to kill Him was planned.

The story about Jesus (and killing Jesus) of course will not be completed without looking at the Roman empire domination in the land of Israel prior to Jesus birth, as we can see in this book how the emperor governed the defeated land; from Julius Caesar until Caesar Augustus under whom baby Jesus born, then Emperor Tiberius who ruled the Roman when Jesus was killed.

Not only were the Roman emperors, but several important figures surrounding the killing of Jesus also being told such as Pontius Pilate, Herod Antipas as well as Caiaphas.

The Roman rule with the crucifixion –as the most brutal and terrifying punishment in the world history—was imposed to Jesus as written so detail by the authors. This part will make us take a deep breath.

The authors who are also historical investigators are supported by a lot of references as well as facts to build the story systematically and chronologically which make the book is worth to read.

The last chapter of the book tells about Jesus’s tomb, the third day since Jesus’s death when Mary Magdalene visited the tomb. As Mary approached the tomb, she was stunned. She stepped forward, looked inside and smelled the myrrh and aloe. She saw the linen shroud but found nothing. “To this day, the body of Jesus of Nazareth has never been found,” the authors close the story.

This book indeed a history, not a religious book.

Forgive Me for Not to Obey Your Fatwa

It’s still fresh in my mind, where Megawati’s PDI (Indonesia Democracy Party) harshly knocked-out by Suharto’s power in 1996. I was still 3 months since I set my feet on Jakarta from my hometown. Everybody knew Megawati was a serious menace of Suharto’s Golkar at that time, and 1996 was only a year ahead of the election. Like previous elections, Golkar always wanted vote majority in order to keep Suharto in reign. Time could not be stopped and Megawati popularity has made the Suharto’s circle depressed. They seemed so fearful the Soekarno’s spirit was coming back. With a very dirt scenario, Suharto’s regime created drama by conspiring with several PDI executives to organize a congress in Medan. The congress, as predicted clearly by everyone, finally appointed Soerjadi as PDI chairman, Fatimah Ahmad as deputy chairman and Butu Hutapea as the secretary general (Soerjadi is Megawati’s predecessor). It means, Megawati who had been selected by National Meeting in Surabaya in 1993, was kick...

When A Street Crime Is Negotiable

That is true a bad guy will not be the bad guy forever. Sometimes, depending on the situation, a bad guy, in fact, still has compassion to his victim. No matter it’s because of pity or something else, but crime in Jakarta is not always appears in horror. The spirit of hometown solidarity for example, is also one of the factors that can be used to win the crime. It’s like what had happened to my team (my subordinate) when I was working for a private bank in Jakarta. Just call him Fresman. May be his parent expected him to always being fresh, I don’t know, but that’s true, his temperament is cool, calm, and always smiles – never looked stressful in any situation. He was very good and talented person in his job. He could always accomplish every job that I gave to him, as long as I described a clear instruction and a clear target date. And, every job was done rightfully. One day he came lately to office, gasped for breath and came to my desk in hurry. “Sorry sir, I am late,” he said while ...
