Who's The Boss?

(published by The Jakarta Post on 14 June 2011. Click here)

I am still eager to learn about Nunun Nurbaeti, a suspect in the 2004 case of vote-buying involving the selection of Bank Indonesia (BI) senior deputy governor Miranda S. Goeltom.

My brain just cannot reach an understanding as to how the woman who is reportedly suffering a “severe forgetfulness” can freely tour Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, as widely reported by the media.
If she has severe amnesia, I would think she would not even remember the simplest things, such as her name written in her passport, her flight ticket and schedule, or even her destination.

Another thing I don’t understand is that if Nunun is considered a criminal in those countries, how would they be able to charge Nunun if she has severe amnesia? In Indonesia, that is possible. The late former president Soeharto also did the same where his lawyers stated similar things to evade the charges. Hmm… how lucky.

But my biggest wonder is about our law enforcers, who have many times said that they are still tracking down Nunun’s whereabouts and have yet to discover her after a year of hunting. Is it so difficult to find her? Is Nunun smarter than Jason Bourne in the sequel of the Bourne movies?

It is possible, and if it is happening, the amnesia, in fact, is smarter than our law enforcers, isn’t it? What we are learning is just like what we see in a circus, where a tamer tames elephants or wild lions.
Nunun can drive the game while suffering amnesia, moreover so if her brain is healthy.

Many people perceive Nunun herself actually as just having acted as a cashier in the case, where she, according to the suspected lawmakers, disbursed billions of rupiah in traveler checks to legislators to persuade them to vote for Miranda.

We are still confused over Nunun’s interest in having Miranda win the selection as BI senior deputy governor. We did not know her before and we don’t see any links that Miranda’s position would provide favor to her that might have made her so generous in distributing that much money.

The 2004 vote buying case that implicated Nunun and corrupt legislators is not just solely about bribery; it is about politics and it is everybody’s business. “Politics is not a game. It is an earnest business,” said Winston Churchill. So as long as the business transaction has yet to finish, the business itself is still ongoing. Hence, we will see that the settlement of the corruption case is not to reveal the truth, but to entertain the powerful negotiator. But who is actually the boss of the powerful negotiator?

Never mind. Don’t take it too so serious, folks. We have known our country is compromised. Let Nunun enjoy her amnesia, because after everything is settled with a win-win business approach solution, Nunun will soon recover from her amnesia illness and will proceed with business as usual. Want to bet?

Eisenhower, The Top Figure Army General, The Modest President

This is a portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower, a young dreamer, charting a course from Abilene, Kansas, to West Point and beyond. Before becoming the 34th president (two terms from 1953 to 1961), Ike –as he was called–  was a five-star general in the U.S. Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe. This book reveals the journey of the man who worked with incredible subtlety to move events in the direction he wished them to go. In both war and peace, he gave the world confidence in American leadership. In the war period, Ike commanded the largest multinational force ever assembled to fight German troops in leading the Western powers to victory.  During his presidency, he ended a three-year war in Korea with honor and dignity. Not a single American died in combat for the next eight years. He resisted calls for preventive war against the Soviet Union and China, faced down Khruschev over Berlin, and restored stability in Leban...

Bertrand Russell Critical Analysis on Western Philosophy

“Philosophy is something intermediate between theology and science,” said Bertrand Russell. Theology and science occupy their own territory. All definite knowledge belongs to science, all dogma as to what surpasses definite knowledge belongs to theology. Between theology and science there is No Man’s Land, exposed to attack from both sides. For that the philosophy is present. The No Man’s Land is philosophy. Then he added, “Philosophical conceptions are a product of two factors: one, inherited religious and ethical conceptions; the other, the sort of investigation which may be called ‘scientific’.” Bertrand Russell who was born in 1872, he himself was a British philosopher as well as mathematician, logician, historian, writer, and social critic. In this book, which was firstly published in 1945, Russell divided the philosophy chronologically into three parts: Ancient Philosophy, Catholic Philosophy and Modern Philosophy. This book is a widely read and influential philosophical history ...

Jesus Way Tak Segampang Busway

Jesus way tidak seperti busway . Dulu ada kisah seorang anak muda yang kaya raya, yang sedang mencar...
